Laurel Community Action Project Newsby L-CAP Celebrates 5 Years |

How the time flies when you're building community! On June 13, L-CAP celebrates five years of neighbors working together to improve the quality of life in the Laurel business district. We have lots to be glad about, including the opening of World Ground Café and Farmer Joe's, and the transformation of several large, abandoned buildings into thriving, attractive businesses. We have lots more to look forward to, including the arrival of Everett & Jones Barbeque on High Street & MacArthur, a multiuse development on 35th and MacArthur, and most exciting, the recent granting of funds earmarked for major street improvements, aimed at making MacArthur business districts more pedestrian-friendly and more attractive. Funds from Councilmembers Dick Spees and Henry Chang and allotments from other city-project funds give us more than $1 million of the $3 million required. Special thanks to Dick Spees. If you have never been to an L-CAP meeting and want to know more about our work, this is a great time to meet new neighbors and find out how you can participate in the camaraderie and satisfaction of building community. L-CAP's birthday celebration will include a timeline of L-CAP's successes, a fun-filled list of ways you can become involved in your community, and, of course, great refreshments from World Ground Café. If you have attended L-CAP meetings, this is a fine time to bring a friend and help expand our ever-growing organization to include more Laurel residents. See you on June 13, 7 to 9 p.m., at World Ground Café. |
