Boulevard Bitesby Sheila D'Amico |
### Regular readers probably noticed that Toni Locke has retired from her longtime volunteer position as Editor. We will miss her involvement with the Metro, and we wish her well as she moves on to other interests. See Toni's letter on page 2. ### Doug Ferguson, Metro board of directors president, has put out a call for new board members. If you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity, leave a message at 287-2655, or e-mail metroreaders\@earthlink.net. ### Congratulations to the Laurel District Association and all who helped to put on the wonderful music fest and street fair. What fun to see MacArthur Blvd. full of people, to smell the wonderful aromas of the different foods cooking, and to hear the sounds of music. But I do have to admit to being a tad disappointed that I had outgrown the pony rides. ### Best wishes to Claudia Jimenez, who is leaving Councilmember Jean Quan's office to take a position on Council President Ignacio De La Fuente's staff. Claudia has been an effective and tireless worker for District 4 and an asset to our community. ### On a more serious note, as we are joyfully celebrating community, we also are aware of violence in the area. An unprovoked attack on an elderly woman in the Allendale neighborhood occurred just as this issue was going to press. But the important note in this terrible incident is that neighbors say they will come forth to do all they can to help catch the attacker. We need the same resolve to help solve the city's homicides. |
