Boulevard Bitesby Sheila D'Amico |
### The corner of Fairfax and High is getting attention from a task force of activists that includes Melrose/High Hopes NCPC (beat 27X), neighbors, and local clergy. This group is working toward solutions to foster safety at the corner, to encourage the local businesses, and to bring community resources to the youth and young adults who hang out at the corner. ### If you are interested in contemporary art, you can't beat the free occasional art lectures at Mills College. I learned about New Media and "global art on the edge" from Steve Dietz and heard firsthand from cultural icon Don Ed Hardy, painter and "godfather of tattoo art." The series continues November 1, 13, and 15 at Danforth Hall in the Art Building and picks up again at the end of January. Visit www.mills.edu/museum, or call 430-2164. ### Planning to fly to Mexico or Canada to take your next "Metro Gets Around" photo? Make sure you have a valid passport. Travel agent and former Metro board member Bettie Grandison reminds readers that you'll need a passport for all international air travel, starting in January. For more information, visit www.cruise-ship-report.com/News/100206.htm. ### It looks as though work is in progress at the northeast corner of High and 35th. This long-vacant site will see construction of a three-story live-work unit. Parking will be hidden in this building that will have retail on the ground floor and housing above. The design if this small unit was worked out after several meetings between the local developer and the community. |
