Redwood Heights Neighborhood Newsby Denise Davila |
A Few Good Members Redwood Heights is looking for new people to join the neighborhood association's board of directors. Several board members' terms are ending, and a couple of people are moving away. Serving on the RHNA board involves attending the monthly meetings and actively participating in a project such as the Annual Picnic, leading a project such as the Home and Garden Tour, or handling advertising for the newsletter. The association also needs a new treasurer and welcomes volunteers. If you would like to join, attend an RHNA meeting 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday each month, at the Redwood Heights Recreation Center. For information, e-mail RHNA_Board-owner\@yahoogroups.com Harvest For Learning Auction Redwood Heights School's largest fundraiser, the Harvest for Learning Silent Auction/Cocktail Party, features a no-host bar, catered hors d'oeuvres and desserts, and live entertainment in the Faculty Lounge at Mills College. Leave the kids at home and mingle with friends and neighbors. Bid on a variety of fine quality items, such as restaurant certificates, original home decor, handmade crafts, gift cards to retail stores, and much more. Shop for holiday gifts, or perhaps find something for yourself. The event is Saturday, November 18, 7 to 11 p.m. The auction harvests approximately $40,000 to help fund the school programs, electives, and initiatives that recent district budgets have reduced or cut, such as science, art, music, and P.E. classes that augment and enhance the quality education provided by our neighborhood school. RHS Kindergarten Enrollment Information With the recent changes in the Oakland Unified School District's enrollment process, Principal Ann Kruze wants parents to know that Redwood Heights School will have enough kindergarten spots to meet neighborhood needs in the '06-'07 school year. Currently, RHS has three full-day kindergartens (spots for 60 children). Enrollment guidelines indicate that no neighborhood children will be denied entry at Redwood Heights at the K level. Kruze says that the district has a working system in place to manage the enrollment process, and that the Student Attendance Office, at 879-8111, will be handling all enrollments unless policy changes in the new year. A bumper crop of neighborhood children are looking forward to enrolling in school next fall. RHS will host a Kindergarten Information Night in the school auditorium on Wednesday, December 6, at 7 p.m. |
