Leona Heights Neighborhood News

by Gordon Laverty

Leona Heights, as always, has had a lot going on lately. Folks are walking and bike riding through our area, which offers good exercise for people and beasts up hill and down hill in fair weather and foul. Many walkers are good to us and pick up pieces of trash trash left by strangers overtly dumping in our streets, as though we don't have enough to do. City crews have been helpful and removed the big clumps.

On November 14, city forces installed a video detection system at the intersection of Mountain Boulevard and Twitter Court in response to neighbors' repeated reports of illegal drug dealing and other activity in the vicinity. Enough is enough! Such installations do make our area safer and better. Thank you!

Robbiano 90th A Dream Birthday Party

The Mills College Alumnae Center was the afternoon site of Phillis Robbiano's October 21 birthday ice-cream social sponsored by her daughters, Carol Robbiano and Gale Enigh. All three are long-time Laurel District residents. Phillis, a young 90, was feted by over 100 friends and relatives, who immensely enjoyed the Mills surroundings.

There were no gifts for Mrs. Robbiano, but each celebrant brought a game, toy, or stuffed animal, over 100 of which were later delivered to Children's Hospital for the children there to enjoy. What a nice idea! Phillis appreciated the action since she has given so many years of service to the PTA and local service groups such as the Ebell Lakeview Women's Club.

In a bright mood, we welcome the new neighbors who have moved into our Leona Heights area in the last several months. They are delightful people.

And now, to you all, Happy Holidays!
