Fiery Neighborhood Meeting for March 11
Topic: Fire Safety in Redwood Heights
Redwood Heights and parts of the Laurel neighborhood are identified as high fire-hazard areas of Oakland because of the wildland-urban interface that is present. As a result, homeowners pay an additional property tax to support Oakland's Wildfire Prevention Assessment District. The Assessment District conducts approximately 25,000 public and private inspections annually in the high fire-hazard area to check for property owners' compliance with defensible space guidelines. The district also provides public education programs about fire safety in high fire-hazard areas.
The RH Heights Neighborhood Association is pleased to welcome Oakland Fire Chief Edwards to discuss vegetation management guidelines and the support programs available to property owners. Chief Edwards will be joined by other presenters who will address the history of fires in the area. Bring your questions and comments regarding fire safety and the neighborhood. All are encouraged to attend on Tuesday evening, March 11. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the First Covenant Church adjacent to Safeway on Redwood Road.'

Spring Daffodils Bloom'
Have you noticed the beautiful daffodils? Eight hardy Redwood Heights volunteers installed 500 bulbs along Redwood Road at the Hwy 13 off ramp opposite the Recreation Center in November 2007. A heartfelt thanks for a job well done goes to all the volunteers and to the RHNA Landscape Committee for this fourth successful neighborhood planting.'
The following day the McCrea Park Neighbors got together and planted an additional 200 bulbs along the Carson Street park frontage. Big thanks are also in order to Chris Burgardt for planning the event and to his volunteers for all their efforts!
Thanks also to Oakland's Department of Public Works for lending tools, to Home Depot for donating the daffodil bulbs, to Caltrans for granting permission to plant on their right-of-way and to the City of Oakland's Parks Department for permission to plant at McCrea Park.'
Block Sale: Donations Needed
Each year on the first Saturday in June, the Redwood Heights Neighborhood Association (RHNA) raises money by hosting a booth at the Jordan Road Block Sale. Funds from this event have supported the Spring Community Picnic, the Welcome Neighbor Program, the RH Sign, and more.
Our success is dependent on your donations. We're looking for items that still have value that could be sold at a garage sale type event, such as housewares, tools, lamps, hardware, electronics, computers, office items, toys, books, garden items, artwork, hobby items, furniture, knick knacks, clothing, kitchenware and almost anything that isn't broken.
To make a donation for more information please contact Randy Fenton at 510-531-4160 or rcfenton\@pacbell.net.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
