Primary Election is June 3.'

If you thought you were finished with elections until November, think again. June 3, 2008 is the date for state and local primary elections. The deadline to register to vote in the primary is May 19.

Below are the names and contact information for candidates for the two open council seats that serve residents in the Metro geographical area. All Oakland voters can vote for an At-Large candidate. Voters in council District Five may vote for candidates for that seat. District Four (Jean Quan) and District Six (Desley Brooks) are the other council districts serving the Metro readership area. Those seats are not up for election this cycle.

All Oakland residents can vote for City Attorney. Incumbent John Russo has no opposition.

State Senate District Nine is up for election. This is the California senate seat currrently held by Don Perata, who is termed out. On the Democratic primary ticket, Wilma Chan and Loni Hancock are vying for the seat. Neither the Republican candidate, Claudia Bermudez, nor the Peace and Freedom candidate, Marsha Feinland have opposition.

State Assembly District 16 is up for election. Both Democrat Sandre Swanson and Republican James Faison are each running unopposed.

In the race for U.S. Representative to Congress in District Nine, all three candidates are also running unopposed. Barbara Lee is the Democratic candidate; James Eyer is the Libertarian; Charles Hargrave is the Republican.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors District Four seat is up for election. Nate Miley and Steve White are vying for the seat.
