Leona Heights Neighborhood Newsby Gordon Laverty |
Wow! It's summer already, and more than ever it's time to get out and enjoy our gardens and our neighbors. I don't know about you, but I've noticed a number of families in Leona Heights have recently put loving care into their gardens, and they do look great. New plants have been added, old plants pruned back, ground turned over. All surely make a difference.' The best way I've found to enjoy everybody's yards and keep in better touch with our neighbors is to go for walks. I think it's great that so many people get out to walk their dogs or just get out for some exercise. I always run into a neighbor I haven't seen in a while each time I walk.' And on that subject, I just want to remind everyone of the First (Sunny) Saturday Stroll. The first sunny Saturday of every month, folks meet at the intersection of Leona St. and 4207 Mountain View Ave. and enjoy each other's company during the stroll. Dogs are welcome too. While I'm thinking about activities in or near Leona Heights, I hope you'll remember to take advantage of the Movies In The Park series at nearby Redwood Heights Recreation Center. All movies begin at dusk and any questions you have can be addressed to Breht Clark at 482-7827. Next in the series are: June 11, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, June 25, The Wizard of Oz, and July 9, The Princess Bride. I also have to remind everyone of one of our neighborhood's little jewels, Leona Park. If you haven't walked the trail along the creek recently, you're really missing something. And finally as a reality check, I remember that it's best not to leave valuables of any kind in your cars wherever you go in or near the big city, unless you park in a garage.' I hope this is a wonderful summer for all of you. |
