Music, bubbles, sun, and the sound of happy people filled the air during the Laurelís Summer Solstice Music Festival. Over 30 musical groups thrilled the neighborhood, playing at World Ground Cafť, Milikiís, Lounge 3411, Acme House of Music, and on two outside stages along MacArthur Blvd. An impressive range of musical genres, presented by local musicians of equally impressive talent and skill, entertained for free from 9 a.m. until way after dark. Children decorated hubcaps for the Laurel Art Garden, painted a mural, and displayed their dance moves at the Loma Vista stage. Muralist Cameron Thompson created original art at the Brown Street stage. All in all, it was a terrific celebration of people making music in the heart of Oakland.

The 7th Annual Summer Solstice Music Festival was sponsored by Laurel Village Association and Acme House of Music. To find out more about the incredible musicians, to help sponsor the next music festival, or to volunteer, please visit the Laurel Village Association website, LaurelVillage.org. To view the decorated hubcaps and the new mural, visit the Laurel Art Garden on 35th Ave. at the entrance to the 580 freeway.
